Environmentalism Needs to Work for Everyone.
What is ARA?
Asia Regenerative Academy (ARA) is an environmental education program for communication practitioners and beyond.
A Learning Community in Practice
We create a learning community where students, researchers, practitioners, educators, communities, and institutions can explore sustainability and regenerative thinking together.
Our work began through collaboration with the Disaster Risk Reduction Center, Universitas Indonesia (DRRC UI), Klinik Digital UI, and Ruang Karya Berdampak.
Inaugural Cross-Border Cohort
Our first cohort brought together four students from the University of Indonesia’s Communication Studies program and one student from Okayama University. Since then, we’ve been learning together through weekly study groups, conversations, experiments, and practical projects.
We explore Systems Thinking, Regenerative Design, Sustainability, Climate Education, and the Circular Economy, especially the issues that matter locally but are often overlooked by mainstream conversations.
We also turn learning into practical resources, including educational modules on Zero-Waste Lifestyle and building everyday resilience by growing organic food in small spaces, starting with just one square meter at a time.
We’re building ARA one conversation, one experiment, and one learner at a time.

Learning That Moves Beyond the Classroom
A conference can end when everyone goes home. A report can sit on a shelf. A course can end when the certificate arrives. We want learning that continues in daily life.
A Changed Practice
Personal habits, zero-waste living, and daily lifestyle choices aligned with ecological care.
A 1m² Garden Trial
Growing food in small spaces, testing compost cycles, and building urban soil health.
Research Collaboration
Co-authored publications, explainers, and inquiries spanning universities across Asia.
A Generational Dialogue
Meaningful conversations between youth, educators, and community elders that shape civic policy.
8 Areas of Exploration
These areas are not treated as separate tracks. A conversation about food systems inevitably touches climate resilience; a conversation about technology touches youth leadership.
1. Sustainability
The starting baseline for understanding human impact — and the foundation ARA builds beyond, toward true restoration and regeneration.
2. Climate Resilience
Understanding how communities anticipate and adapt to a changing climate, pairing science with living adaptive traditions.
3. Food Systems
Growing, distributing, and consuming food in ways that restore living soil, nourish communities, and safeguard food sovereignty.
4. Disaster Risk
Preparing communities before hazards strike, and recovering in ways that build long-term systemic resilience rather than repeating vulnerabilities.
5. Well-being
Recognizing that regenerative futures are fundamentally human — depending on mental wellness, dignity, and communal strength.
6. Technology & AI
Harnessing emerging technologies, spatial data, and AI to support — rather than displace — human judgment and local stewardship.
7. Communication
Bridging science, communities, and policymakers through authentic storytelling, multi-language translation, and honest dialogue.
8. Youth Leadership
Equipping young researchers, changemakers, and creators to actively design, test, and lead regional regenerative responses today.
